Understanding Invisalign
Invisalign is a popular choice for many individuals looking to improve their smile and regain their confidence. Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. Custom-made for each patient, these aligners are crafted from smooth, medical-grade plastic and are virtually invisible when worn. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign offers a more discreet and flexible solution, allowing you to eat, drink, brush, and floss with ease.
It's a popular choice for both adults and teenagers who want to enhance their smile without the inconvenience or appearance of metal brackets and wires. Whether you're dealing with mild crowding, gaps, or bite issues, Invisalign can help you achieve a better smile.

How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign works by using a series of custom-made, clear aligners that gradually move your teeth into their ideal positions over time. Each aligner is worn for around 1 to 2 weeks, applying gentle pressure to shift specific teeth in small, precise steps.
Your treatment will start with a detailed consultation, where we use advanced 3D scanning technology to create a digital model of your teeth. This allows us to plan your tooth movements from start to finish, and we can even show you a preview of your future smile.
As you progress through each set of aligners:
-
Your teeth slowly shift closer to alignment
-
You’ll have periodic check-ins with our team to monitor your progress
-
The aligners remain virtually invisible, making them ideal for everyday life
Because they’re removable, Invisalign trays also give you the freedom to eat, drink, brush, and floss without restrictions—making treatment both effective and lifestyle-friendly.
The benefits of Invisalign
-
Discreet appearance: Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible, allowing you to straighten your teeth with confidence. Others may not even notice you're undergoing orthodontic treatment.
-
Comfort: The smooth, custom-fitted aligners are free from the discomfort and irritation often associated with traditional braces.
-
Removable: Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. You can maintain your oral hygiene without any hassle.
-
Efficiency: Invisalign treatment can be faster than traditional braces in some cases. You'll achieve a straighter smile in less time.
-
Predictable results: With advanced 3D technology, you can visualise the expected outcome of your treatment before you even begin.
-
Fewer surgery visits: Invisalign typically requires fewer in-office appointments compared to traditional braces, making it a convenient option for busy individuals.

Important information about Invisalign
-
NeodentNeodent implants are part of the Straumann group and this has become a leading dental implant system with over 3 million implants sold worldwide. This is an extremely high quality implant with excellent long term survival rates.
-
BiconThe Bicon short implant is another long established implant system with decades of clinical use. The short nature of these implants allows for safe use around vital structures and minimises the need for bone grafting procedures that would otherwise add an additional cost and complication to the treatment. They can often be placed in areas where there is insufficient bone to place other implant systems.

Zirconia dental implantsDental implants have been made from medical grade titanium for the last 60 years with no known allergies. However, with an increase in patients suffering from metal sensitivities, there is a demand for a metal-free alternative. We are now able to offer a metal-free alternative in Zirconia implants. Zirconia implants have been used in Europe for over a decade and can provide excellent biocompatibility. Zirconia is an extremely stable material meaning that it does not trigger an allergic or inflammatory response in the body, leading to its excellent biocompatibility. Although not suitable for everyone, zirconia dental implants may be a better choice for particular clinical situations. Advantages of choosing zirconia dental implants: Zirconia is the only viable option for a patient wishing to have metal-free dental implants. This material is inert and can be a good choice for people with known metal allergies or sensitivities. Zirconia implants may be more aesthetically pleasing, eliminating the risk of dark lines around the gingival margin. A metal-free zirconia implant could be healthier for the soft tissue because this material retains less plaque and dental calculus than titanium, especially when a one-piece zirconia implant is selected. Zirconia has good flexural strength and is known to be superior to other ceramics in resistance to fracture. Its white colour, low modulus of elasticity, and low thermal conductivity have made this material a desirable choice for implant dentistry. Clinical studies have shown zirconia to be as good as titanium in terms of osseointegration. This is due to the high level of contact between the implant and the jaw bone, allowing the bone to fuse firmly with the implant, resulting in osseointegration.

Ultra-short implantsThe Bicon short implant is a long established implant system. The short nature of these implants allows for safe use around vital structures and minimises the need for bone grafting procedures that would otherwise add an additional cost and complication to the treatment. They can often be placed in areas where there is insufficient bone to place other implant systems.

PRF - Platelet-rich fibrinImplants need bone to be placed in, unfortunately this bone can be lost when a tooth is removed or over time if the tooth has been missing for some time. If there is insufficient bone we often have to replace this bone with either processed animal bone or a man-made artificial form of bone. Dr Sherwin can offer PRF: this is where a small amount of your blood is taken and processed in a centrifuge to produce a platelet rich fibrin clot, rich in the most important components of your normal blood clot. Placed in a socket after tooth removal PRF can reduce the amount of bone lost or mixed with artificial bone improve the uptake of any bone grafting procedure.

All on 4 dental implantsMany people are suffering from loose dentures, broken or missing teeth, but this doesn’t need to be the case. All on 4 dental implants might be the perfect solution for you. The “All on 4” concept involves placing 4 or more implants into the bone of the jaw, providing a strong and stable foundation for a full-arch fixed set of teeth, known as a bridge. The aim of the treatment is to transform your mouth with a brand-new smile that looks, feels, and functions like natural teeth. What does this treatment involve? Initial consultation: Your dentist will assess your oral health and determine if you are a suitable candidate for All on 4 dental implants. Treatment planning: Using advanced imaging technology, your dentist will create a customised treatment plan to ensure optimal implant placement. Surgery: Under local anaesthesia, your dentist will remove any teeth and place the implants into your jawbone. Temporary bridge: In many cases, a temporary fixed bridge is placed on the same day as the implant surgery. Healing period: You’ll need to wait for the implants to integrate with your jawbone, which usually takes around 3-6 months. Final bridge: Once the healing is complete, your dentist will replace the temporary bridge with a permanent, custom-made bridge.
