How Invisalign Works
We begin with a full assessment of your teeth, taking digital scans or impressions to plan your treatment from start to finish. From this, a series of custom aligners is created, each one moving your teeth gradually towards their final position.
You will wear each aligner for around one to two weeks, for 20 to 22 hours a day, before moving on to the next in the series. We will see you regularly throughout your treatment to check that everything is progressing as planned and to give you your next set of aligners.
Because the aligners are removable, you can take them out to eat, drink and clean your teeth as normal, which many patients find more convenient than fixed braces.
Is Invisalign Right for You?
Invisalign is often suitable for mild to moderate crowding, spacing and some bite concerns. Because it relies on you wearing the aligners consistently, it works best for patients who are happy to commit to wearing them for the recommended number of hours each day.
For more complex movements, a fixed appliance from our orthodontic treatments may be recommended instead, and we will always be upfront with you about which option is likely to give the best result for your smile.

How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?
You should clean your aligners each day using a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water, avoiding hot water which can distort the plastic. We can also suggest specific cleaning products if you would like extra guidance. Keeping your aligners clean helps to keep your mouth healthy throughout treatment.
Am I suitable for Invisalign?

Can I eat and drink normally with Invisalign?
Yes, because the aligners are removable, you simply take them out before eating or drinking anything other than water, then clean your teeth before putting them back in. This means there are no food restrictions during treatment, unlike with fixed braces.
Will people be able to tell I'm wearing aligners?
Invisalign aligners are made from clear plastic and are designed to be discreet. Most people will not notice you are wearing them unless they look closely, which is one of the main reasons patients choose this option over visible fixed braces.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Invisalign is generally comfortable to wear. You may notice some mild pressure or tightness for the first day or two after starting a new aligner, which is a sign that your teeth are gradually moving, but this usually settles quickly. If you experience ongoing discomfort, please let us know so we can check that everything is fitting as it should.
What happens if I lose or damage an aligner?
If an aligner is lost or damaged, please contact us as soon as possible. Depending on where you are in your treatment, we may advise you to move on to the next aligner in the series or to wear a previous one temporarily while a replacement is arranged, so please do not leave a longer than usual gap without an aligner in place.
